Isle of Skye Car Service
Get Ready for Your Service With Our Quick Guide
Why is it important to regularly service my car?
There are several reasons to regularly service your car. Primarily services can help to keep you, your passengers and other road users safe.
During your service, important components of your car are assessed to ensure they are in good condition. These include major safety elements such as your brakes, steering and suspension.
Services carried out by Highland Motors will help spot any potential issues or safety concerns.
Servicing your car at the correct times will more than likely save you money in the long run. Engines that are not serviced at proper intervals can often end up being less efficient, meaning more trips for fuel and extra top-ups of oil.
Small issues that are easily fixed early can snowball and create avoidable more expensive work. Regular servicing also increases the lifespan of your car.
We aim to keep your car on the road driving as safely and efficiently as possible. Our pricing is honest and transparent.

Can you provide me with a courtesy car?
Yes, however this is subject to availability – so please let us know when you book.
What does a full car service include?
Your car service will include checks and tests of over 40 vehicle components, system checks and adjustments.
Some of these include –
- Checking and if necessary replacing your engine oil and filters
- We’ll assess the lights, tyres, exhaust as well as your brakes and steering.
- We run tests on your engine to make sure it’s performing efficiently.
- We carry out suspension checks
- We’ll check your cooling system, from radiators to pumps and hoses.
- We’ll also assess your vehicle’s battery condition.
Will servicing protect my cars value?
Yes. Cars with a complete, detailed service history are considered safer buys than cars with partial or no services history. That’s because your service history proves your vehicle is well maintained, keeping a record of the work carried out and when.
Recent studies have shown that almost half of car buyers wouldn’t consider purchasing without a complete service history. Those who would purchase a car said they would expect a significant discount to take on the potential risk.
Unfortunately, missing out on services or choosing not to spend a few hundred pounds on maintenance can cost you later when you sell your car.
We understand that unexpected bills can be a challenge for our customers. If this is the case, make sure to ask us about spreading your payment interest-free over 6 months. We’ll do what we can to help.
Will servicing protect my warranty?
It’s always best to check with your car’s warranty provider to make sure you know your obligations. Warranties could be invalidated if you do not keep up to date with your car’s service schedule.
Manufacturers do have the right to set a servicing schedule for their vehicles, which must be adhered to.
As long as you have a record of the service and it is conducted to the manufacturer’s specifications, you can choose to have your car serviced at an independent garage like Highland Motors.
How often should I take my car in for servicing?
Many car manufacturers suggest getting a full car service every 12,000 miles or 12 months. It’s best to check your service book or car manual to get an exact time for your specific car.
You may consider having your car serviced every 6,000 miles or 6 months to ensure optimum performance.
Can you service my car air conditioning?
Yes. We can re-gas and service air conditioning units.
You should aim to have your car air con reconditioned every two years.
Servicing your air con will help identify and fix any faults and allow us to fill depleted stores of gases and lubricants.
Are car services and MOTs the same thing?
No. MOTs are mandatory tests carried out on vehicles to make sure they are roadworthy and meet minimum requirements.
Driving without an MOT can lead to fines and points on your license.
A service is used to keep your car in peak condition as per the manufacturer’s guidelines. Regular servicing can reduce the likelihood of your vehicle having major issues in future and can help spot any problems before they develop further.
What’s more.. keeping detailed service records can help maintain the value of your car at a higher level should you decide to sell it later.
